House Finch
Carpodacus
mexicanus
Common at lower elevations in western counties in variety of open habitats in proximity to cities, suburbs, towns, and farmlands; also occurs in more-or-less natural areas adjacent to altered habitats, but not in large forest tracts. Common at low and moderate elevation in Kittitas County in similar habitats. BBA records extend somewhat farther west along Yakima River and more extensively into steppe zone and along Columbia River than reflected in predicted range mapped by Washington Gap report (Smith et al. 1997).
