Uncommon to locally fairly common in Kittitas County, increasing beyond close of atlas period. Inhabits open ponderosa pine forests with grass understory. Gray Flycatchers first recorded in Washington in 1970, nesting along Wenas Creek just south of Kittitas County line. Species continues to expand north and east from core Washington nesting range in Yakima and Klickitat Counties.
