Native to eastern United States. Regularly released in various parts of Washington, principally by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Usually found in fields, brushy areas, open forests, and stream corridors. Breeding confirmed twice in Kittitas County toward end of BBA period—near Taneum Point on South Cle Elum Ridge (1999) and in Swauk Creek basin north of Liberty (2000).
